This is the best time to train!
So much is in the news and so many of us have even been effected first hand by the challenged economic situation. We read and see company employees up in arms because they were just laid off and no one is hiring. We hear about companies cutting back on insurance, perks, and in some cases even doing mandatory payroll decreases. Overall, so many companies are looking to find way to “trim” excess spending.
Corporations that are feeling the burn have to find a way to retain their top talent, as well as offer new-comers an incentive that will keep everyone in the conga line.
Many feel that training and development are the first items to be cut from the budget. However, companies that are forward-thinking are not cutting spending on training but in fact offering their employees the opportunity to learn more. Speaking first hand with a training department supervisor it was said that they have raised their budget in 2009-2010 on training and learning initiatives. Whoa! Talk about value! Take your key personnel and make sure they have the skills to be successful at their job and perhaps jobs to come.
Companies see an increase in their ROI by keeping employees up to date with the latest on desktop application and soft-skill training needed in the work place. Just because our economy is fractured does not mean we have to sit on our hands and wait and see what is going to happen next. Take the time to evaluate your employees and offer them the training skill they need. Instead of that report taking two days to compile why not learn how to properly use the application and reduce a couple of days to a couple of hours so that employee can then be a resource elsewhere.
Make that time-to-technology quicker and employee retention stronger. Not only will you see the benefit of training, but seeing a smile on your employees face while knowing that they are fully confident in their task-at-hand is priceless.
